As you may or may not know, the audio production blog site Audiotuts+ periodically hosts giveaways for their readers where one lucky commenter is randomly chosen to receive a prize.

Earlier this year I was interviewed by Audiotuts+. In the interview I mentioned my upcoming educational DVD, which I was working on at the time. Now since its release, Audiotuts+ has approached me about contributing a copy of the DVD, The Studio Edge: Pro Audio Recording Series, as the prize for one of their current giveaways. I’m proud to announce that the first DVD of my educational series, The Studio Edge: Pro Audio Recording Series, is finally shipping. This first installment, titled Studio Concepts, Gear & the Physics of Sound, is a detailed journey through the fundamentals that are essential to audio engineering. This is a landmark achievement for me, as it is a culmination of my knowledge, experience, hundreds of hours in scripts, edits, lights, teleprompters, and my desire to give back to a world that has given a lot to me throughout my lifetime.

56 Channel Live Record with Calexico for Film

44 open mics on stage, 4 direct boxes, 6 audience mics, and stereo front of house. And this is just a rock band. Craig Schumacher has a long history with recording with Calexico. When Craig saw how big of an operation this was going to be, he called me to come help out. I have a lot of experience doing mobile concert records. (Check out the show I recorded in China with Alicia Keys and Cyndi Lauper.) 48 Channels of True System mic pres were brought in to get as clean as a capture. With this many mics an musicians on stage, it was imperative for me to be monitoring the gains at all times. Sometimes the trumpet players would face the vocal mic instead of the horn mic which kept me on my toes the whole time. Here is a little sample of my photography. I love it.
